Project Description

Joint Defenders Game

Pfizer approached us to develop a platform to educate children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JiA) about their disease and the importance of their treatment.

The result was an engaging game for iPad and iPhone that puts the player in the shoes of a Joint defender. In the first part of the game the player has to steer through the blood stream by using the gyroscopic sensor of the device to collect enough medication to fight off the disease. In the second part the player gets to defend their joints. There is a time limit for each stage and each round becomes increasingly difficult.

Integrated throughout the app are educational animations talking about JiA and the treatment of the disease. Leaderboards allow players to compare their efforts with other children who suffer JiA.

My role as creative director encompassed the development of the overall game mechanic, recruiting and directing the illustrator, selecting sound effects and supervising the development from brief to completion.

Additionally, I created all the In-game animations based on the illustrator’s artwork.
